Continue reading to know more about our preparations that must be done.

Before starting, I would like to cite a Hadith of the Prophet;

Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ascended the pulpit and he said, “Amīn, amīn, amīn.” It was said, “O Messenger of Allah, you ascended the pulpit and said amīn, amīn, amīn.” The Prophet said, “Verily, JIbraeel (AS) came to me and said: Whoever reaches the month of Ramadan and he is not forgiven, then he will enter Hellfire and Allah will cast him far away, so say amīn. I said amīn. Whoever sees his parents in their old age, one or both of them, and he does not honor them and he dies, then he will enter Hellfire and Allah will cast him far away, so say amīn. I said amīn. Whoever has your name mentioned in his presence and he does not send blessings upon you and he dies, then he will enter Hellfire and Allah will cast him far away, so say amīn. I said amīn.

Considering the first part of the Hadeeth we can understand the value of Ramadhan and we must take the maximum from it. It is important for one to be forgiven during the month of Ramadhan. Some scholars say that it should be as if its our last ramadhan.

How would you act if it was your last ramadhan?

This is why we came up with the things one should do before Ramadhan.

First of all, asking for forgiveness:

What is the meaning of forgiveness?

What do you think forgiveness is?

Is it the casual and usual message that we send each other via whatsapp or facebook or any other media? Here is an example:

Is it what we call forgiveness?

For me, it lacks sincerity. Instead of asking for forgiveness, the writer of this message put his imagination at work, trying to come up with the best emotion involved using smileys everywhere. He lost time just in putting smileys. We take the same message and forward it everywhere not taking the time to ask our self whether we hurt that person or not and if we did to what extent was he hurt. Its even more unfortunate that we do not know whether he or she forgave us!

Simplicity is beauty. I am sure you must have heard of it. Don’t get me wrong, I like elegance and things done correctly but when asking for forgiveness you should bare your soul to the person asking for forgiveness. You must know whether you are forgiven or not.

Forgiveness also means that you forget everything and start anew. For your duahs to be accepted during Ramadhan there are lots of things that we do not realize we do and must be stopped.

Another important thing one must do before reaching Ramadan is to stop all acts that is Haram as from now. We already know what are the things that are forbidden and that we are still doing. It is never too late to stop. For example,

  • Being jealous of others
  • Lying
  • Backbiting
  • Listening to music
  • Eating doubtful food
  • Usury
  • Being part of haraam things
  • Watch movies; among other

Preparation for ramadhan starts way before ramadhan, start your ibaadah as from now on. Don’t wait for the D-Day to come. Reading Quran is a must in the daily life but with our worldly life we tend to forget it. Many of us do not make it a point to pray on time or we simply abandon our Salat. We act frivolous when it comes to our Deen.

Make a plan. Know what you would do and when you’ll do it. For example, there are some zhikr that needs to be done throughout the day and the evening but that are ignored. Try to get close to your creator and stick to it throughout the Ramadan.

Now let’s step into Ramadan and take a look on that most awaited month.

Ramadhan. Ramadhan, Ramadan, Ramzan,  is the holy, sacred and blessed month for the Muslim communities. In that month, muslims observe full day fasting during the whole month, that is as soon as the new moon for that month is seen and ends when the new moon for the next month is seen that is, shabaan.

To be noted that the muslim calendar is based on the moon and is called the lunar calendar and during this month the devil, Shaiitan, the devil is chained.

How is the fasting?

Well well well, the fasting, sawm (in Arabic), Roza of the muslim is that they don’t eat and drink as well as abstain from certain activities from Sehri to Iftaar.

In this sacred month, the muslim fast and observe certain limits to their daily duties. Our desires are curb to do what we’ve been sent on this earth to do, that is Ibaadah, praise and worship the sole Creator, almighty Allah.

We learn to control our desires, our tongues, our daily activities and use our time wisely by getting back to our Lord.

Well, we all got different desires and that month bring us to control our desires thus having better control on our mind, our soul and body.

Controlling our tongue. This is something most of our people need to master nowadays. Screaming foul words, lying, backbiting, speaking ill of someone, ill-treat each other among other.

Control our daily activities: do things of greater value. For e.g:

  • Yes we are allow to go to work yet if we can we should avoid overtimes.
  • Yes we are allowed to cook yet we need to cook things that won’t take up most of our time.
  • Yes we are allowed to bath, yet we need to bath and get back to our duties as soon as possible and not take hours to do so.
  • Reading of book, you love to read so why not read things which will benefit yourself, maybe some lecture of the Qur’an, read and learn some hadith, some sur’ah, some tafsir and not some usual book.
  • You want to watch something, why not watch some Islamic related video, well some lectures and not some movies or drama our even comedy for surely they ain’t profitable for a month like Ramadan.

During Ramadan we need to strive to do good deeds and that should continue all year around. Why not use Ramadan as a changeover for our life? Change yourself for the better and maintain that change. Surely you will benefit from those for every single good deed that you do you shall be rewarded.

Use your time allocated wisely, maximise the good deeds, make duas, read and understand the Holy Qur’an. We’ve reach Ramadhan, Alhamdulilah. Take it as a favour Allah did upon you and thank him for that. Do your best as it’s your last Ramadan.

To that we end today’s edition, In Shaa Allah we’ll be back with another edition during the week.
